He was born on May 25th 1952. After ground and intermediate he finished technical high school. Played acoustic guitars and joined bands since he was 16. He started his solo career after the band "Tiny Folk" and was discovered and produced from the popular radio DJ Eva-Maria Kaiser. In 1970 he won the Austrian TV competition "Showchance 70" performing his song "Returned to Italy" under the artist's name ERIC. Since then the Austro-American artist mixed up the international music scene. He is named as the "..founder of the Austrian pop music..." in the Austrian Pop Music Cyclopaedia, which as he himself quotes a rather doubtful as factitious honor. Anyway having published hit songs like Walking 'Round or Look At Me, Beautiful Garden, Carry Me and so on he also wrote music for other singers and bands like Roger Whittaker, Bruce Is Really Janice, and many more. Eric Spitzer-Marlyn was defenitely the first in Austria, who made the acoustic guitar and finger pick style fashionable in pop music. That is the red line through all his records. His style and his very typical voice turned into a trademark. He worked and played together with John Taylor, Carlos Santana, Yoko Ono, Bruce Springsteen, Family Dog, Arlo Guthrie, Marmelade, Jack Grunsky, and many more. Today he writes mainly score music, develops movie sound designs or produces other artists, favouring acoustic guitars and electronic minimal music: Travelogue (P.Ratzenbeck), Stainless Steel (G.D.Gfrerer), RTL 3, Riddle (Thomas Leeb), On the Water (Monika Stadler) as well as Harmonia (Roedelius/Brian Eno/Rother/Moebius), Cluster , Hans-Joachim Roedelius and others. Besides that Eric Spitzer-Marlyn is involved in many film projects and has lectures at the Vienna University for Performing Arts, Dept.Film and TV.
